Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
